Enter citizen!

Today we start worship with:

Psalm 13:1;13:5

How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

We all go through those times when for his own purpose God allows circumstances to enter our lives that seem, from our perspective, the God has turned his face from us or has forgotten us.

Job experienced terrible calamity when God removed His favor and allowed Satan to take Job captive. (šᵊḇûṯ).

But that captivity ended when . . .

Job 42:10

And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord  gave Job twice as much as he had before.

In the throne room of God we are not captives but, instead, citizens. Call out and enter anytime the world has taken you captive.

Mine, mine, mine.

 Today we start worship with:

Isaiah 43:1

“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

God says “mine” a few very important times . . .

To explain why an Israelite cannot be a slave, because they are His servants (Leviticus 25:39-43).

To dismiss Job’s case against Him, for his loss, because it was His (Job 41:11).

And in today’s verse God explains why we should not fear.  We are His.

Enter into Joy

Today we start worship with:

Matthew 25:23

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

At work, the result of good performance may be a pay raise or more vacation, but more often it is more responsibility.

As you "move up the ladder" something changes.  You change from being concerned about the task to how the work is done.  Your joy comes from not what your hands do to how the department is functioning.

Here Paul asks the Phillipians to make "his joy complete":

Philippians 2:1-11

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Sees me!

 Today we start worship with:

So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

The focus of this verse is not Sarah's incredible opportunity to see God.  But rather it is the fact that the God of the universe saw her.

At work, you meet with your boss periodically.  You may meet with their boss once in a while.  Their boss probably does not know your name, but may have seen it on a report.

Imagine the God of the universe not only knowing your name, but being concerned about your condition!  This was so incredible, Sarah named the spring they were encamped beside:

Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; it lies between Kadesh and Bered.

Beer-lahai-roi means the well of the Living One who sees me.
