This week we begin worship with:
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on theirhearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
To understand this verse we must read:
And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
God by indwelling of the Holy Spirit moves the law from external to internal and from “don’t” to “do”.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
When Jesus explained the Law, He used the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). May His concluding words ring in our ears “You go, and do likewise.” (Luke 10:37b).
