This week we begin worship with:
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
God first loved us. That truth is under all of scripture. God loved us before He made us.
In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, . . .
That love is un-ending.
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, . . .
Even if we slip up, it does not change.
if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.
It has been observed that John never used the word "faith", he always used the active word "believe". To remain in that place of joy, our task is to actively "keep" His commandments. Inaction separates us from the joy God intends.
